I graduated from Howard University College of Fine Arts in 1973, BFA. I began teaching General Art and Ceramics in the District of Columbia Public School system in the fall of 1973.
I hold a Master’s degree from Virginia Polytechnic University 1988 in Pupil Personnel Services / Guidance and Counseling. I retired as a middle school counselor from the District of Columbia Public Schools in 1999. My career as an Art educator spanned over 20 years.
I can not remember a time when I did not have a needle in my hand. I have always loved the feel of fabric. I enjoy the tactile experience afforded by working with all kinds of textures.
I began as a traditional quilter but soon felt this approach limited me from creating more expressive works. I have submerged myself into art quilts.
I am drawn to, and inspired by, African symbols and masks and have developed a stylized approach to include them in my work.
